Precepting fundamentals: Delivering successful APPE rotation and residency experiences

As pharmacists assume the role of preceptor to support advanced pharmacy practice experience rotation students and/or pharmacy residents, careful planning and implementation are needed to ensure the delivery of meaningful learning for new practitioners. This presentation will highlight multiple experiential learning components, including employing preceptor roles, establishing goals, developing learning activities, communicating expectations and providing summative and formative feedback and formal evaluations.

Learning objectives:
  1. Define the four preceptor roles.
  2. Describe activities that provide students/residents with opportunities to meet learning objectives.
  3. Compare and contrast feedback and evaluation.
  4. Discuss formative and summative feedback.
  5. Discuss the responsibilities, expectations and goals of preceptors and students/residents during a rotation.

To obtain credit:

Attendees must participate in the entire program by viewing the presentation on a smartphone, tablet or desktop or laptop computer, listening to the presenters with audio from the device or a linked telephone connection, responding to polling questions and submitting questions within the GotoWebinar platform. Following the presentation, attendees must return to the lesson within Drug Store News to attest to active participation and to select a participation code that will be displayed by the moderator during the on-screen presentation. An evaluation of the program is also required.
